JOB OPENING NOTICE

DEPARTMENT:      ELECTRIC

JOB TITLE:              LINEMAN A, B OR C (depending on experience level)

JOB DESCRIPTIONUnder regular supervision, installs and maintains electrical lines, streetlights and rental lights, and performs other duties related to electrical construction and maintenance.  Reports to the System Coordination Supervisor and/or Construction Foreman.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:  Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by one year of responsible technical experience in electrical line work, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Must possess valid state CDL driver’s license with appropriate endorsements or obtain one within six months of hire.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Assists with the construction, installation and repair of underground and overhead services to permanent and temporary residential and commercial structures.
  • Assists with substation construction.
  • Maintains street lights and rental lights.
  • Assists with tree-trimming work as required.
  • Builds and sets forms for concrete; performs finishing work on concrete structures such as curbs, driveways, etc.
  • Responds to routine trouble calls and emergency situations, including power failures, accidents, house fires, and other urgent situations.
  • Operates a bucket truck, line truck, trenchers, back hoe, bob cat, boring machine, climb poles, and other equipment, as well as electrician’s tools, fault finder, thumper, meters, and various hand and power tools, as needed for daily assignments, including installing and maintaining power lines, poles and aerial fiber cables.  Exercises care and safety in the use of equipment and vehicles.
  • Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs/adjustments on assigned equipment and vehicles.
  • Performs all work in accordance with prescribed policies, procedures, codes, regulations and standards of safety and quality.
  • Assists other linemen as required.
  • Works on call, 24 hours per day.
  • Prepares and submits routine forms and records as required in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, other department supervisors and employees, co-workers, customers, utility companies, City/County personnel, emergency response personnel, contractors, and the general public.

JOB GRADE: Grade 11(C), 15(B), 18(A) ($41,644 – $81,044)
